Nope is a 2022 American science fiction horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele. Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer star as OJ and Emerald Haywood, siblings who run a horse ranch for Hollywood productions and discover a mysterious object in the clouds above their property that is responsible for bizarre phenomena β power outages, animals behaving strangely, and objects falling from the sky. The Haywoods realize the object is not a UFO but a predatory, organic creature disguised as a cloud that feeds on anything that looks at it, and they attempt to capture photographic proof of its existence for fame and fortune.
Jordan Peele's third film was his most ambitious, blending spectacle-driven science fiction with meditations on Hollywood's exploitation of spectacle, the entertainment industry's treatment of animals, and humanity's compulsive need to watch even when looking away would save their lives. The alien creature's design β a massive, undulating organism that unfurled into a terrifying, flag-like form β was one of the most original monster designs in modern cinema. Nope earned $171 million worldwide on a $68 million budget.
