Raya and the Last Dragon is a 2021 American animated action adventure produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada. Set in the fantasy land of Kumandra, inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia, the film follows Raya, a warrior princess voiced by Kelly Marie Tran, who must track down Sisu, the last surviving dragon voiced by Awkwafina, to restore a magical gem that will reunite the fractured lands and banish the Druun — a mindless plague that turns people to stone. The film was Disney's most deliberate engagement with Southeast Asian cultures, consulting with the Southeast Asian Story Trust to ensure authentic representation of the region's diverse traditions, aesthetics, and philosophies.
Awkwafina's Sisu brought comic levity to the film's otherwise serious themes of trust, betrayal, and reconciliation. Raya earned $130 million worldwide during simultaneous theatrical and Disney+ Premier Access release.
