Ready or Not is a 2019 American black comedy horror film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Samara Weaving stars as Grace, a young bride who marries into the fabulously wealthy Le Domas family, a board game empire dynasty with a dark tradition: every new family member must play a game at midnight on their wedding night. When Grace draws the "Hide and Seek" card โ the worst possible result โ the family must hunt and kill her before dawn or face supernatural consequences from the deal their ancestor made with a mysterious benefactor to establish the family fortune.
Samara Weaving's performance was a breakout โ her Grace transitioned from bewildered bride in a tattered wedding dress to furious, bloodied survivor with a shotgun with viscerally satisfying determination. The film's satirical take on inherited wealth, family obligation, and the lengths the ultra-rich will go to protect their privilege gave the horror genuine thematic bite. Ready or Not earned $57 million worldwide on a $6 million budget.
