- During the filming of Scary Movie 2, Anna Faris improvised one of the most famous lines in the movie.
- Keenen Ivory Wayans originally wanted a completely different ending for the film, but test audiences preferred the one we see today.
- Before Anna Faris was cast, several major A-list stars turned down the lead role because they felt the script was too risky.
Scary Movie 2 is a 2001 American horror comedy directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the sequel to his 2000 hit. The surviving characters from the first film, along with new additions, are invited to spend a weekend at a haunted mansion by a wheelchair-bound professor, played by Tim Curry, who is secretly conducting a paranormal experiment. The film parodied The Haunting, The Exorcist, Poltergeist, What Lies Beneath, and various other horror films while maintaining the first film's formula of relentless, aggressively crude humor.
Chris Elliott's caretaker Hanson, a servant with a grotesquely deformed hand that he kept putting in the food, was a memorably disgusting comedic creation. Scary Movie 2 earned $141 million worldwide on a $45 million budget. The sequel maintained the original's aggressively lowbrow formula while expanding the scope of its parody targets, demonstrating that the Wayans Brothers' brand of extreme, boundary-pushing comedy had a reliable audience despite critical disdain.
The franchise would continue with three more sequels under different creative teams.
