Scary Movie is a 2000 American horror comedy directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, a parody primarily targeting Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Anna Faris stars as Cindy Campbell, a teenager whose town is terrorized by a masked killer whose identity is connected to a hit-and-run cover-up from the previous summer. The Wayans brothers' approach was to push parody beyond the relatively gentle spoofing of the Naked Gun tradition into aggressively crude, sexually explicit, and racially charged comedy territory, with jokes about bodily fluids, drug use, and physical deformity delivered at machine-gun pace.

Anna Faris's deadpan commitment to the absurdity was the film's most consistently effective comedic element. Scary Movie earned $278 million worldwide on a $19 million budget, an enormous return that launched a franchise of five films and essentially created the modern spoof movie genre.
