Superman is a 2025 American superhero film written and directed by James Gunn, the inaugural film of the new DC Universe. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, a young man who has been operating as Superman for several years but is still finding his place in a world that doesn't fully trust him. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, reimagined as a brilliant but ruthless tech mogul.
James Gunn, now co-chairman of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, crafted the film as the foundation of an entirely new, interconnected DC Universe following the closure of the previous DCEU continuity. The film emphasized Superman's compassion, optimism, and essential goodness — qualities Gunn considered central to the character — while introducing a roster of heroes including Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) who would populate the broader universe.
