The Flash is a 2023 American superhero film directed by Andy Muschietti. Ezra Miller stars as Barry Allen/The Flash, a forensic scientist who can move at superhuman speed, who travels back in time to prevent his mother's murder and his father's wrongful imprisonment for the crime. His actions fracture the timeline, creating an alternate universe where General Zod's invasion from Man of Steel is happening but there is no Superman to stop it.
Barry must team up with an alternate Batman β an older, retired Bruce Wayne played by Michael Keaton, returning to the role 31 years after Batman Returns β and a Kryptonian survivor Kara Zor-El played by Sasha Calle to save this universe while finding a way home. Michael Keaton's return as Batman was the film's most celebrated element, and his interactions with Miller's Barry provided the emotional core. The Flash earned $271 million worldwide on a $200 million budget, a significant commercial loss despite the positive reception of its multiverse concept.
