Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a 2024 American monster film directed by Adam Wingard, the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong. When Kong, now living in the Hollow Earth, discovers a hidden population of great apes enslaved by the tyrannical Skar King โ a cruel primate leader who wields an ancient weapon capable of controlling a frost-breathing Titan called Shimo โ he must seek an alliance with Godzilla to defeat this new threat to the surface world.
The film leaned fully into the MonsterVerse's evolution toward kaiju spectacle over human drama, with the Titan sequences occupying significantly more screen time than any previous entry. Kong's expanded characterization โ now communicating through sign language, expressing complex emotions, and receiving a cybernetic enhancement to his injured arm โ gave the ape unprecedented personality. The climactic four-Titan battle across Rio de Janeiro was the franchise's most spectacular destruction sequence.
Godzilla x Kong earned $570 million worldwide on a $135 million budget.
