The Magnificent Seven is a 2016 American Western directed by Antoine Fuqua, a remake of the 1960 classic which was itself adapted from Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Denzel Washington stars as Sam Chisolm, a warrant officer who assembles a diverse team of gunslingers โ including Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier โ to protect a small frontier mining town from a corrupt industrialist, played by Peter Sarsgaard, who has seized their land and threatens to destroy the community. The diverse casting of the Seven was the remake's most notable creative choice, reflecting the actual multicultural reality of the American West more accurately than traditional Westerns.
