The Secret Life of Pets is a 2016 American animated comedy produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film explores what pets do when their owners leave for the day, following Max, a spoiled terrier voiced by Louis C.K., whose comfortable apartment life in Manhattan is disrupted when his owner Katie brings home Duke, an enormous, shaggy mutt voiced by Eric Stonestreet. Their rivalry leads both dogs into the streets of New York, where they encounter Snowball, a deranged but adorable bunny voiced by Kevin Hart who leads an underground army of abandoned pets plotting revenge against humans.
The premise โ Toy Story but with pets โ was executed with Illumination's characteristic bright, fast-paced energy. Kevin Hart's Snowball, a fluffy white bunny with an unhinged rage against the human race, was the film's comedic standout. The film earned $875 million worldwide on a $75 million budget, Illumination's second billion-dollar-adjacent hit.
