- The incredible score for Total Recall was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
- Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a hidden easter egg referencing Len Wiseman's previous film in the background of the opening scene.
- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
Total Recall is a 2012 American science fiction action film directed by Len Wiseman, a reimagining of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film. Colin Farrell stars as Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the late 21st century who visits Rekall, a company that implants artificial memories, and discovers that his entire life may be a fabrication and that he may actually be a secret agent involved in an underground resistance against the authoritarian Chancellor Cohaagen, played by Bryan Cranston. Unlike the original's Mars setting, this version takes place entirely on Earth, which has been divided between the United Federation of Britain and the Colony (Australia), connected by "The Fall," a gravity elevator that travels through the planet's core.
The production design was the film's strongest asset β a dense, rain-soaked, multilayered cityscape inspired by Blade Runner that was visually impressive. Colin Farrell brought more emotional vulnerability to the role than Schwarzenegger's muscular original. Total Recall earned $198 million worldwide on a $125 million budget.
