- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
Uncharted is a 2022 American action-adventure film directed by Ruben Fleischer, based on the Naughty Dog video game series. Tom Holland stars as a young Nathan Drake, a clever New York bartender and petty thief who is recruited by Victor "Sully" Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg, to help find $5 billion in gold hidden by Ferdinand Magellan's crew 500 years ago. Their globe-trotting treasure hunt, from auction houses in New York to ancient underground cities in Barcelona, pits them against a ruthless billionaire played by Antonio Banderas who is also pursuing the treasure.
Tom Holland brought his characteristic youthful energy and acrobatic physicality to Drake, though purists noted the character was significantly younger than the game version. The cargo plane sequence, in which Drake fights mercenaries while clinging to cargo falling from the aircraft, was the film's most spectacular set piece. Uncharted earned $401 million worldwide on a $120 million budget.
