Allegiant is a 2016 American dystopian science fiction film directed by Robert Schwentke, the third installment in the Divergent franchise. Shailene Woodley returns as Tris Prior, who leads a group over the wall surrounding Chicago to discover the truth about the outside world. They encounter the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, a technologically advanced organization that reveals Chicago was an experiment to restore genetically "pure" humans, and that Tris is their most successful result.
The Bureau's leader David, played by Jeff Daniels, enlists Tris's help in his agenda while Four, played by Theo James, discovers the Bureau's methods are more sinister than they appear. Allegiant was the franchise's critical and commercial low point, earning $179 million worldwide on a $110 million budget โ a steep decline that led Lionsgate to cancel the planned theatrical finale and attempt a television movie conclusion that was ultimately never produced, leaving the franchise incomplete.
