Incredibles 2 is a 2018 American animated superhero film produced by Pixar Animation Studios, written and directed by Brad Bird. Set immediately after the events of the first film, the sequel follows the Parr family as superhero activity remains illegal and a telecommunications mogul named Winston Deavor offers to champion the cause of superhero legalization β with Elastigirl as the public face of the campaign. While Helen Parr becomes the world's most visible superhero, Bob must manage the household and three children alone, grappling with baby Jack-Jack's chaotic and wildly unpredictable array of emerging superpowers.
Brad Bird had waited 14 years to make the sequel, refusing to proceed until he had a story that justified the continuation. The role reversal β putting the traditionally heroic father in the domestic sphere while the mother takes center stage β allowed the film to explore gender dynamics within the superhero family framework that the original had established. Jack-Jack's powers, which manifested in increasingly absurd and hilarious ways including laser eyes, dimensional travel, spontaneous combustion, and multiplication, produced some of Pixar's most inventively animated comedy sequences, particularly his backyard battle with a raccoon.
Incredibles 2 earned $1.24 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing animated film domestically and the first animated film to gross over $600 million in North America. The film's success demonstrated that audiences would wait over a decade for a worthy Pixar sequel.
