Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a 2012 American science fiction adventure directed by Brad Peyton, a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth. Dwayne Johnson replaces Brendan Fraser as the lead, playing Sean's stepfather Hank Parsons, who accompanies the teenager to a mysterious island in the Pacific where they discover Jules Verne's fictional locations are real โ the island contains giant insects, tiny elephants, the lost city of Atlantis, and Captain Nemo's Nautilus submarine. When the island begins sinking, the group must escape before it disappears beneath the ocean.
Dwayne Johnson brought his trademark physical comedy and charisma, and the "pec pop of love" scene โ in which Johnson bounces berries off his flexing chest muscles โ became the film's most memorable moment. Michael Caine appeared as Sean's adventurer grandfather. Journey 2 earned $335 million worldwide on a $79 million budget, significantly outperforming the original.
