Rampage (2018)
- The original script for Rampage was written over a decade before production finally began in 2018.
- Before Dwayne Johnson was cast, several major A-list stars turned down the lead role because they felt the script was too risky.
- The incredible score for Rampage was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
Rampage is a 2018 American science fiction monster film directed by Brad Peyton, loosely based on the classic Midway arcade game. Dwayne Johnson stars as Davis Okoye, a primatologist at the San Diego Wildlife Sanctuary whose close bond with George, an albino silverback gorilla who communicates through sign language, is shattered when a pathogen from a crashed space station mutates George into a massive, aggressive creature. When two other animals — a wolf and a crocodile — undergo similar transformations and all three converge on Chicago, Davis must find a way to save George and the city.
Rampage was designed as a large-scale monster destruction spectacle, and it delivered on that promise with the three mutated creatures devastating Chicago's skyline in an extended climactic battle. Dwayne Johnson's genuine warmth in his scenes with the CGI George gave the film an emotional anchor. The film earned $428 million worldwide on a $120 million budget.
