Maze Runner: The Death Cure is a 2018 American dystopian science fiction film directed by Wes Ball, the concluding chapter of the Maze Runner trilogy. Thomas, played by Dylan O'Brien, leads his surviving friends on a final mission to infiltrate the Last City โ WCKD's heavily fortified capital โ to rescue their captured friend Minho, played by Ki Hong Lee, from the organization's lethal experiments to develop a cure for the Flare virus using the blood of immune young people. The assault on the city requires the group to navigate a zombie-infested wasteland, infiltrate WCKD's defenses, and confront both the organization's ruthless leader Ava Paige, played by Patricia Clarkson, and their former ally Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario, whose betrayal drives the trilogy's final emotional conflict.
The Death Cure was delayed by over a year after star Dylan O'Brien suffered serious injuries during a stunt involving a moving vehicle in March 2016, an accident that shut down production and required months of rehabilitation. O'Brien returned to complete filming, and his committed physical performance anchored the trilogy's most action-heavy installment, which featured elaborate set pieces including a train heist, a walled city siege, and a crumbling building escape. The film earned $288 million worldwide on a $62 million budget, bringing the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.
