Pixels is a 2015 American science fiction action comedy directed by Chris Columbus. Adam Sandler stars as Sam Brenner, a former video game champion turned home theater installer who is called upon to save the world when aliens misinterpret old NASA video game footage sent into space in the 1980s as a declaration of war and attack Earth using giant versions of classic arcade game characters including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, and Space Invaders. The concept โ one of the most inspired high-concept premises in modern comedy โ originated from Patrick Jean's acclaimed 2010 short film.
Despite the promising premise and the talents of Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and Michelle Monaghan in supporting roles, the film received overwhelmingly negative reviews for squandering its concept with formulaic execution and tired humor. Pixels earned $244 million worldwide on a $88 million budget.
