San Andreas is a 2015 American disaster film directed by Brad Peyton. Dwayne Johnson stars as Ray Gaines, a Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter rescue pilot who must navigate a series of massive earthquakes along the San Andreas Fault to rescue his estranged wife Emma, played by Carla Gugino, and their daughter Blake, played by Alexandra Daddario, from the devastation. The film depicted the complete destruction of Los Angeles and San Francisco through earthquakes exceeding magnitude 9, followed by a catastrophic tsunami that floods the San Francisco Bay Area.
The visual effects team created some of the most detailed urban destruction sequences ever filmed, including the collapse of the Hoover Dam, the disintegration of the Hollywood sign, and the Golden Gate Bridge snapping apart. Dwayne Johnson's screen presence anchored the spectacle with a likeable everyman hero. The film earned $474 million worldwide on a $110 million budget.
