The Grinch is a 2018 American animated comedy produced by Illumination Entertainment, the third adaptation of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Benedict Cumberbatch voices the Grinch, a grumpy, cave-dwelling creature who plots to steal Christmas from the enthusiastically festive residents of Whoville, and Rashida Jones voices Donna Who, a single mother whose daughter Cindy Lou wants to capture Santa Claus to thank him for helping her overworked mother.
Illumination's version gave the Grinch a more sympathetic backstory and a less menacing personality than either the book or the Jim Carrey film, portraying him as more lonely and misunderstood than genuinely malicious. The animation was vibrant and detailed, with Whoville rendered as a dazzling, candy-colored winter wonderland. Tyler, the Creator contributed an original song.
The Grinch earned $511 million worldwide on a $75 million budget, making it one of the highest-grossing animated films of 2018.
