Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a 2009 American science fiction action film directed by Michael Bay. Shia LaBeouf returns as Sam Witwicky, now heading to college, who discovers that a shard of the AllSpark has implanted ancient Cybertronian symbols in his mind โ information sought by the Fallen, an ancient Decepticon who plans to activate a sun-harvesting machine hidden inside one of Egypt's pyramids. The film suffered from a screenplay developed under severe time pressure during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike, resulting in a narrative widely criticized as incoherent.
Despite overwhelmingly negative reviews and extensive criticism of crude humor and excessive runtime, Revenge of the Fallen earned $836 million worldwide, demonstrating the franchise's commercial resilience. The forest battle between Optimus Prime and multiple Decepticons simultaneously was praised as the franchise's most impressive action sequence to that point.
