The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a 2010 American fantasy action adventure directed by Jon Turteltaub. Nicolas Cage stars as Balthazar Blake, an ancient sorcerer and former apprentice of Merlin who has spent centuries searching for the Prime Merlinian — the one person destined to inherit Merlin's power and stop the evil Morganian sorceress Morgana le Fay from destroying the world. He finds his chosen one in Dave Stutler, played by Jay Baruchel, a nerdy NYU physics student with zero confidence who must learn to harness magical abilities while being hunted by Balthazar's rival Horvath, played by Alfred Molina.
The film's centerpiece was a recreation of Disney's iconic animated Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence from Fantasia, in which Dave accidentally enchants mops and brooms to clean his lab with predictably chaotic results. The Sorcerer's Apprentice earned $215 million worldwide on a $150 million budget.
