Overview
About the Film
xXx: Return of Xander Cage is a 2017 American action film directed by D.J. Caruso, the third installment in the xXx franchise marking Vin Diesel's return to the role he originated in 2002. Xander Cage, presumed dead, is recruited to recover Pandora's Box, a device capable of weaponizing satellites, from a rival team of extreme operatives led by Xiang, played by martial arts legend Donnie Yen.
The film assembled a multinational cast reflecting its global box office ambitions, with Deepika Padukone, Tony Jaa, Kris Wu, and Ruby Rose joining alongside Diesel and Yen. The action sequences leveraged the diverse martial arts expertise of the cast, with Donnie Yen's fight choreography and Tony Jaa's Muay Thai skills elevating the combat well beyond typical Hollywood action. The film was engineered primarily for international markets and earned $346 million worldwide, with over 80 percent from international territories — a commercial strategy that proved profitable despite tepid domestic reception and mixed reviews.
