A music film lives or dies on the moment the band finally plays. The best ones earn it, whether the story is true, made up or told entirely in song.
HBO Max inherited HBO's taste for prestige content, which shows in their music lineup. The average quality here tends to be higher than other platforms, but there are still misses to avoid.
Every film on this list earned its ranking from real viewers, from musicals and backstage stories to the lives of the people who made the songs.
Every movie on this list is ranked by ThumbScore — the percentage of everyday people who liked the film. No critic gatekeeping, no algorithmic manipulation. Just real audience verdicts.
