Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a 2019 American monster film directed by Michael Dougherty, the sequel to the 2014 Godzilla and the third film in the MonsterVerse. When the eco-terrorist organization Monarch discovers that ancient Titans are awakening across the globe, paleobiologist Dr. Emma Russell, played by Vera Farmiga, uses a device called the ORCA to awaken the three-headed King Ghidorah โ Godzilla's ancient rival โ believing the Titans' return will restore ecological balance.
Her estranged husband Mark, played by Kyle Chandler, and their daughter Madison, played by Millie Bobby Brown, must stop the plan before the Titans destroy civilization. The film delivered on its promise of massive monster battles on a scale the MonsterVerse had only hinted at โ Godzilla versus King Ghidorah across multiple continents, Mothra and Rodan joining the conflict, and a climactic Boston showdown were spectacular in their scope. Bear McCreary's thunderous score incorporated Akira Ifukube's classic Godzilla theme.
The film earned $386 million worldwide on a $170 million budget.
