The film stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, an eccentric, perpetually inebriated pirate captain who arrives in the British colonial port of Port Royal just as the ghostly crew of the Black Pearl, led by Captain Barbossa played by Geoffrey Rush, kidnaps the governor's daughter Elizabeth Swann.
