The Best Documentary Movies on Netflix

Documentaries are the genre where critics and audiences actually tend to agree the most. But there are still hidden gems that fly under the radar and crowd-pleasers that critics undervalue.

Netflix's library is massive, which means it has everything — and also a lot of nothing. Sorting through the catalog without a guide is a recipe for wasting an evening scrolling. This list cuts through the noise to the documentary movies that audiences actually loved.

These documentaries earned their rankings from real viewers. Whether they're eye-opening, heartbreaking, or mind-blowing, they all deliver.

Every movie on this list is ranked by ThumbScore — the percentage of everyday people who liked the film. No critic gatekeeping, no algorithmic manipulation. Just real audience verdicts.
